I love my quiet Saturdays. Between reading, listening to NPR, drinking my coffee, and perusing the internet, Saturdays are my one day a week to reinvigorate myself for the coming week. I will have to cut this relaxing Saturday short in about an hour. I didn't time my sample synthesis well this week. I have a good few hours of work to put in at the lab this afternoon and this evening.
I have so many things on my 'to do' list for this weekend, I doubt I will accomplish everything. When I go into the lab today, I have to start thinking about the next step of the synthesis process of making my type II clathrates. It is a brand new synthesis approach and I have to spend some time today revisiting my general chemistry knowledge. We don't have confirmation as to the exact stoichiometry of the compound that I am currently making that will be used in the next step of the synthesis. It will take a lot of educated guessing at the exact stoichiometry to get the synthesis to work properly. We don't have time to wait for NIST to solve the crystral structure of this intermediate compound or I wouldn't have to spend so much time on this guess work. My motivation: if this works, it is not only a novel idea but it is publishable, and it will turn out a master's degree for me.
My apartment is starting to look like a national disaster area so that needs immediate attention. I will most likely clean up this evening.
I have an assignment for my Lasers class and an assignment for my Quantum class due this week. The boys want to talk about the Lasers assignment today and tomorrow. Between the three of us, we should be able to solve all of the problems before Monday. I am trying to care about Quantum assignment but I am still irritated with my professor over how he handled the Numerical Solution to the Schrodinger Equation assignment. I'll end up "sucking it up" and getting it done, I just don't feel like putting the effort into it right now. Tomorrow I need to catch up on my Lasers reading and start prepping for the first exam which is on Friday.
Finally, I would like to inform all who read this jounal that I am very proud of my Mom. She returned to college this semester. She has not been in a classroom, as a student, for thirty years. She took her first midterm last week and scored the highest grade in the class. So congrats to my Mom!
I am off to the lab.

congrats to your mom from me too!
do you think we could get your mom to convince my mom to go back to school??
I am incredibly proud of my Mom. She left college after her third year to marry my Dad. They worked and saved so that they could help put my brother, sister, and I through college. Now its her turn...
