I survived a few days at home in nowheresville with my family. It was a far more relaxing time than I thought it would be.
I drove home Thursday morning and got stuck in some horrendous holiday traffic. Its a good thing I know several routes home. I ended up taking the scenic route with less traffic but slower speed limits so it took a little longer to get home. Once home, my mom informed me that we wouldn't be eating until it was actually dinner time. There would be no traditional Thanksgiving dinner time of 2 p.m., no, this year, it was 6 p.m. for us. It worked out well though, we snacked and napped as a family all afternoon. Snacking is probably my favorite holiday pass time, there is always good food around. There is something about my parents' house, once all four of us come home (me, my sister, brother and sister in law) we always end up sprawling out in the living room napping together. We must have sat around the dinner table for a couple of hours between dinner and dessert. My brother and father were engrossed in a discussion of financial things (of which I have no interest) and grandma would periodically interject with pointless and brainless comments (we love her anyway). We all watched a really bad movie together after dinner. The best part of this movie was during a chase seen, a man actually got into a paddle boat to try to outrun a cop. It doesn't sound so funny now, I guess it helps if you're watching it.
Friday I woke up with my mom's two little dogs sleeping in bed with me, they are such great little cuddlers. I spent the majority of the day braving stores and malls in a major metropolitan area just so I could hang out with my siblings. I found something cute for Amy. My family hadn't put their wishlists out via email yet so I had no idea where to even start thinking of gifts for them, so I haven't bought anything else yet.
Saturday I woke up to my dad scolding me because the air pressure in my tires was supposedly too low. I was planning on going back to my apartment early in the day but I ended up having to stick around and wait for some extended family members to come over for lunch. They made the trek down from the north for a vacation at the theme parks. While waiting for family, I plopped down in front of the tv to watch hours of the food network. When its just mom, dad, and myself the food network is the television compromise between HGTV and the golf channel.
I despise both. On my way back to my apartment, I got a call from my best friend. She was going out for her birthday and wanted to know if I would come. So by the time I made it back into to town, I had just enough time to shop for Lori, get some dinner, and get dressed before it was time to go out. I ended up volunteering to be her designated driver for the evening, no one else was (the schmucks) and its just safer that way. It was the smallest birthday party she's had in years. She usually combines her and her boyfriend's birthday parties into the same night. Since he was being a dickhead last night, she ditched him and came to my side of town to have her own party. I think she wanted it that way though, earlier in the day she had gotten into a fight with the schmuck because he called her a "femme-nazi" just because she doesn't want to be a baby-making machine. We had a lot of fun, in our small group. Since Lori moved across town, I don't see much of her anymore and had forgotten just how loud and obnoxious she gets when she drinks.
Needless to say, I was up very late last night and got a slow start this morning. On her way out of town this morning, Amy stopped by. She just has a way of putting me a good mood. I should get some homework done now.
