A decent end to a not so great week.

I had to work in the lab yesterday but there really wasn't much going on, so I had the opportunity to catch up on some of the reading I needed to do until the lab meeting. The first order of business for the lab meeting, the head professor asked to see my lab book, opened it and showed it to the grad students and other undergrad students and said "do you see this lab book, this is what your lab books should look like, i want to see this much detail or more in all of your lab books". it made me feel good. he also asked when i'd be ready to make my own sample (which is something he has yet to ask grant who's been in the lab six months longer than i have), so by next month, i should be making my own samples. i also am officially a lab geek, the prof is getting me a key to the lab next week. i now have a desk on campus and i will no longer have to "break and enter" into the building on the weekends to study. i'm excited. i know i'm a huge dork.

also last night i saw a nobel prize winning physicist speak. he won the nobel at the end of the 1990s. he was a great speaker, kind of like Mr. Wizard on crack. i couldn't believe that the presentation was so low-tech, he used hand written transparencies. i haven't seen hand-written transparencies since grade school. it was still great fun.

i also did relatively well on the mechanics exam that i took last week.

i talked to my friend jai yesterday afternoon too. she wants me to come down to key west for spring break. not a bad idea. i'll see if i can swing it.

am starting to fill out my grad applications. have all of my professors lined up for the letters of recommendations i need.

i won't be seeing amy this weekend so i've decided to go home.

thats it, i'm off to work.
