I have a book buying habit that I need to break.
I have a one-foot high stack of books from the library sitting on my desk in the lab, another two-foot stack from the library sitting on my side table in my living room. I have a stack of four or five books on my desk that have been designated as "must read". I have an entire shelf on my book case devoted to "period literature" books that I am dying to read but haven't found time yet. I have a whole other shelf on the same book case devoted to fun physics books that I haven't found time to read yet either. This doesn't even include the four Harry Potter books that I ordered in paperback yesterday because I saw the third Harry Potter movie on Monday when everyone else was watching the Stanley Cup game (I cannot believe that a hockey team from Florida won it) and decided that I needed to reread the first four books. I also preordered the 5th Harry Potter book, it will come out in paperback on August 10th. I need to curb this habit immediately so I can save all of this money I am spending on books. I wouldn't have to wait for a few more paychecks to buy a new computer if I had not bought so many books this year. Instead of buying all of them, I should have just borrowed what I could read at the time from the library. The library just informed me that as a grad student I get to borrow books for 12 weeks. 12 weeks! No more of this 3 week crap. I will actually have time to finish using the book before its due back. Very exciting. I should get back to work now. I have a meeting with Dr. N this afternoon in reference to a presentation that I have to give in less than two weeks. I am no where near ready for my meeting or my presentation and I am starting to freak out about it.
