I am slowly getting back into the grind at work. I felt like I busted my ass today even though everything I did seemed to take twice as much time as I had alotted for the task. I managed to get four samples running. Two of them come out tomorrow, they are on a 24 hour cycle. 20 hours in the furnace, four hours of turn-around time before they go back in. I got those suckers in three hours later than I had planned on. I don't mind the fact that things took extra time today, it just means I have to re-evaluate how I am going to get everything done for the rest of the week. It was nice to be busy, to be running around with two and three timers going at a given moment. I didn't have to think about anything except work.
I will say though, that Grant's samples are a huge pain and when he comes back from vacation, he will have some major ass kissing to do. I scared the crap out of myself taking his samples out the furnace at 700 degrees C on Friday night. Heaven forbid these things get taken out a room temperature, NO, they have to get taken out at their set point temperature. I got those suckers prepped and back in the furnace today. They come out again on Friday night which means this physicist will be working yet another Friday night and Saturday. I think Grant may have to do my lab dishes for a few weeks in order to repay for my work on his samples.
Also, a strange turn of events, my major professor has been ever-present in the lab last week and this week. It is a little strange, I don't really mind it because it is nice to have an extra pair of hands around sometimes, it is just strange. It is kind of like going to work with your dad when you're a little kid, you know he works for a living but you aren't exactly sure what he does until he takes you to work, even then you aren't really sure but at least you know what his office looks like. Okay, wow, I really am tired...
