I went to the preschool graduation tonight. The red room kids are going to kindergarten in the fall. The kids graduating tonight were part of the last class that Amy and I taught together. As I have tried to stop by and visit them with some regularity, they still remember me. They still remember Amy, I had a hand in that. I walked into the cafeteria tonight, fifteen minutes after the beginning of the ceremony. The kids waved at me from the stage, even though I tried to sneak in, unnoticed. I found where Xander and Griffin’s family was seated, nodded to them, and found a place to stand in the back. Griffin noticed me after about five minutes, climbed off of Grandpa One’s lap and ran over to me. He was attached to my hip for the rest of the night. I love my little two-year-old man. I can’t help but have an attachment to him and his brother. The ceremony was long but all of the kids had fun. When they were finally done, the kids that were part of the original two year old class, the class that Amy and I taught together, came running over to me. “Miss Femalephysicist, you came!” “Miss Femalephysicist, we love you!” “Miss Femalephysicist, CHASE US NOW!” So, of course, I obliged. We ran, we hugged, we laughed… we had so much fun. I love my little friends. Now they are going off to kindergarten. I won’t be able to stop by the preschool anymore and see them all in one fell swoop. I miss them already. There is something amazing about the love and respect of a child. Tonight was a good night.
