My Dad was in a car accident yesterday. He will be okay. Some 15 year-old-girl with a learner’s permit and a mom riding shotgun made a left turn right in front of him. There was nothing he could do to avoid the accident. He experienced a 35 mph impact. He has chemical burns on his hands from the airbag; both of his wrists and shoulders are sprained. Thankfully, he has no broken bones. Thankfully, there was no broken glass. Thankfully, his knees did not hit the underside of the dashboard. He is very sore, banged up and bruised, but he will be okay. I was freaked out last night after my mom called to tell me the news. It never occurred to me that anything could happen to either my mom or my dad. I realize that accidents happen to everyone, no one is invincible, no one is completely safe. Something like this has never touched so close to my home.

Mom specifically requested that I not go home this weekend. My dad does not like to be seen when he isn’t at his best and he certainly isn’t at his best. I will do what I can to stay busy and I will call often to check in.
